International Day for Universal Access to Information
On 27 September 2018, Tunis hosted the IPDCtalks, organized by UNESCO’s International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) together with the Tunisian government, to celebrate the third International Day for Universal Access to Information. The theme: “Good laws and practices for open societies: powering sustainable development with access to information”.
A TED-inspired format
The day was built around short, impactful talks, live-streamed worldwide. Speakers included Nobel Peace Prize laureate Tawakkol Karman, Reporters Without Borders Secretary-General Christophe Deloire, as well as journalists, entrepreneurs and open-source investigators. Around ten satellite events took place simultaneously in other countries.
Evencia’s role
Evencia supported the organization of this day in Tunis. A live-streamed talks format requires particular attention to staging, lighting, sound and timing: each talk has to follow the previous one seamlessly, while ensuring high-quality capture for the online audience and a careful welcome for international speakers.
Online streaming and social media coverage gave this day in Tunis an international audience well beyond the room, which made the quality of the stage, lighting and video capture a central concern. Speakers from several continents also had to be welcomed, briefed and scheduled with precision so that each talk started exactly on time. Rehearsals, sound checks and a clear running order shared with the technical crew were essential to deliver a smooth live broadcast.
